A weekend in MACAO

... yes still here ...

I finally got my work visa approved and in order to active it I had to leave HK and come back in with a new stamp on my visa in my Passport. So off I went to a FUN weekend in Macao.

Initially it was planned just to stay one day, but then we decided to leave on Saturday and just stay the night. Packing the bags off to the Ferry Terminal and off to Macao

...an hour later we arrived ... hmm where to stay ...even though Macao has over 18.000 hotel rooms, most of them were booked, but we were VERY lucky and got a room in the old Lisboa Hotel ... one of my fav in Macao. Because it is THE TACKIEST Hotel I have ever seen ....

So here is the first night ... walk over to the Wynn Hotel ... stroll through the casino .. (they put something in the AC that smelled like toilette spray) ...cocktails in the Bar ...off to Hac Sa Beach to get dinner at ...

FAMOUS FERNANDO'S ... ahhh such great Portuguese food ...and we ordered hungry as you can tell ...tons of food ... but sooo good. A pitcher of Sangria, roasted suckling pig, rice, salad ..mhhhhh ... with full bellies we went back to check out some more casinos ... hmmm the Venetian or the Hard Rock? ... Hard Rock and off to the roulette table ... NOT a good idea ... did not win anything ...ohh well ... that's gambling for you!

The next morning ... getting up ..checking out ... coffee at Senado Square ... and walking around the city .. past St. Dominic's Church - Largo da Se - Ruins of St. Paul's - sections of the old city wall - St. Augustine's church - Dom Pedro V Theatre - the Moorish barracks - A-Ma temple .... great walk passing all the pretty old architecture of the city.

Taking a break at The Pousada de San Tiago ... an old fort from 1695 that was converted into a hotel!

All that walking made us hungry ... off in a cab to COLOANE VILLAGE... I have eaten at this lovely Portuguese restaurant in the square in front of the old church before ...mhhhhh ..and yet again it was great!

And to top if off ... the Famous Lord Stowe's Egg tarts ... delicious ...

all full of energy .. we headed back to the Venetian Hotel to try another Roulette table ...but No luck for me! ohh well ... back to the tacky Lisboa to grab our bags and back to the ferry terminal ...heading back to HK ... over all a fantastic weekend with lots of fun! Macao is always worth a visit!

HALLOWEEN at DISNEYLAND Hong Kong

Yes I am still alive!
The reason why my blog has not been updated in a while is that even I am in Hong Kong, this is not vacation anymore for me this is turning into regular life. Not that I am not doing enough! I promise I will try to be a bit less lazy for the rest of the year!

Don't worry ... So here finally another update!

HALLOWEEN at Hong Kong DISNEYLAND!

My friend Anna got free tickets for Halloween at Disney, so we decided to go last Sunday night. I have heard about HK Disney before. But it was my first time ... and most possibly the last one as well.

We did have fun ... Loved the SPACE Mountain ... rode it 3 times ...I love roller coasters to begin with, but this one being mostly in the dark, does add a kick to the whole experience ...

Some of the classics had to be part of it as well ...LOVE the Tea Cups - no crazy adrenaline ride but Fun.

A classical carousel ...sooo beautiful!

Then we did the Demon Jungle and the Haunted Hotel (special for Halloween) they were great ... we screamed out head off walking though them .... lots of good FUN!

This ride was just the most boring thing EVER ... Overall I have to say that this Disneyland is very small and the rides are very lame and a joke ( except Space Mountain).

I am glad I did not spent my money there. I am not surprised that it is not going very well. They might want to add some REAL attractions and rides for a change.

So we decided to check out Ocean Park soon ...it is supposed to be much BETTER! If you feel like I have been just bitching, it was a Fun evening and we did have Fun!

The PEAK at night and of BEING FISH FOOD

Last Tuesday Bonnie asked me to join here for a fish massage at the peak. I have tried this before in Cambodia and I remember having to laugh soooo hard ... but it this feel good!

So off we went for some smooth feet and good laughs ....

We decided to take the bus up to the peak, which is the first time I have done it. It is cheaper then the tram - just take Bus 15 from Exchange Square Bus Terminal and it takes about 30 minutes. I do have to say we did have to wait for the bus over half an hour.

So off we went to become FISH FOOD!

This was great, it was very difficult to bear in the beginning but you do get used to it. As you can see on our funny faces!

Look at my feet they loved them, it looks like I have fur on my feet.

After being eaten by fish we enjoyed the view of HK from the Peak at night. Wow, first time for me. I was always up here during the daytime.

We got somewhat creative with the pics after a while ...

Overall another great evening with good friends in HK!

Beijing - Peking ..the city where 18.5 mill people live

A major reason why I love living in Hong Kong right now, is the fact that it gives me the opportunity to travel around Asia.

A friend who is currently travelling around the world asked me to join him in Beijing ... Great ..have not been wanted and needed to see it! Off I went on the 11th until the 15th of August!

It takes around 3 hours and 20 minutes there by Plane from HK. I found a really nice and authentic Hotel in the Hutongs online. Loved the place ...like stepping back in time. The locations was great as well!

Day 1 - walking around in the Hutong and Shopping!
Lovely cafes and stores in this cute street around the corner from our hotel . Got some really cool stuff ....

Day 2 - Temple of Heaven Park, Pearl Market and the Art District

798 ART DISTRICT - a great place - highly recommend it to everyone!

Day 3 - The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square ...drinks at the Capitol M ...the Night Market

Day 4 - The Great Wall at Mutianyu

SINGAPORE - sing a song for Singapore

Last week I got a call from my very good friend Guy, who had just recently moved to Singapore. He invited me to hop on a plane and come for a visit to check out Singapore. And that's what I did.

I left HK Friday at 11, and after an easy 3.5 hour flight I arrived in Singapore. Got a cab and went to Guys new fab apartment.

We chilled a bit on the balcony with a nice glass of wine before going out.

THE FIRST NIGHT in SINGAPORE

There are several MUST DOs in Singapore, one being visiting the RAFFLES HOTEL for a SINGAPORE SLING. At the Long Bar this yummy drink was invented. The RAFFLES HOTEL is just breathtakingly beautiful. We loved our Singapore Slings and the peanuts - and just throw the shells on the floor.

After that we went to BOAT QUAY to have dinner and the famous SINGAPORE CRAB and the grilled Stingray and the drunken shrimp and some fab veggies ... We had a great spot by the water and enjoyed our food - as you can see!

In order to get to all the meat in the crab you really need to get your hands dirty - ohh - yes we did!

The number 8 is considered lucky in Asia and we had two 8 - one the table number and then Guys Shirt! Lucky us!

After a nice stroll by the water over to CLAKE QUAY we had a crazy idea. Let's get on that HUGE swing and swing around really high up in the air. Ohhh well it was fun but we were pretty scared in the beginning. But it ended up being lots of fun after all!

We strolled around a bit more and had a drink before going back home!

DAY 1 - the SHOP HOUSES

We woke up around 9, had coffee and then went downstairs to the GREAT POOL for a good swim and a bit of relaxation in the morning. Seriously I could live here ...it felt like I was on a beach vacation - only without the sand.

Around noon we headed toward the ARAB QUARTERS where we had a nice light lunch and some ice cream afterwards. This area is sooo cute. I just love all those old shop houses!

Next Stop CHINA TOWN - again lovely area with tons of very well preserved shop houses, food stalls, markets stalls and a huge temple.

We also found our protector for our chinese sign in here - and the OX -Guy and Me - TIGER - have the same protector!

Walking around, drinking some cold fresh coconut juice and then - because we deserved it - got a fab food massage!

AND a WUERSTELSTAND from AUSTRIA ... too funny ... we just had food before otherwise I would have gotten myself "A KAESEKRAINER mit SUESSEM SENF und an BROT"!

DAY 2 - a RELAXED SUNDAY

We got up around 9 again and had some coffee on the balcony and then decided to head over to the river for some brunch and a nice walk. It was a bit of a cloudy and windy day, still nice, but not really pool weather. We found a couple of very nice local places right by the water where we chilled and had fab brunch.

After that we stolled around the waterfront for about 2 hours passing various pretty Singapore places.

Guilin - China

GUILIN
Last Thursday was a holiday here in HK and my friend Charly decided to take a long weekend trip to GUILIN in China. He was nice enought to take me along. On thursday evening we took a plane from Shenzhen to Guiling which was an hour flight. In my mind I thought Guilin to be a small town, and the local Chinese actually do think it is a samll town, but for me a town with 5 mill people is not Small at all.

桂林 Guilin is famous for its Osmanthos trees, the trees flowers are added to the famous local tee. This is also where the name comes from. Its name means "forest of Sweet Osmanthus" - as you can see in Chinese, right!

A brand new Shangri-La Hotel just opened there and they had really good rates, so we decided to go for some luxury, which was well worth it. The Shangri La was the first 5star hotel to open in Guilin after 25 years. So you can imagine how the other 5star places might look like.

We had fab room with the most amazing beds, I slept like a princess, swam in the outdoor pool and enjoyed my stay.

DAY ONE:
On Friday we got up early and joined the LI RIVER cruise down the river along side the fab mountains this region is famous for. After a couple of hours we ended up in Yangshuo. Yangshuo is very cute but very touristy, because that town does get 15 mill tourists a year. Well, China is a big country with lots of people.

We decided to take another small bamboo raft cruise in the afternoon. Which was very relaxing!

We got to see some Comoran fishing - this is an old local way of fishing. The fisherman use Comoran birds to catch the fish, but the birds can't swallow the fish because the fishermen bound their necks before. So the bird catch ed the fish and the fisherman is getting in out of the mouths again. Hmmm ... I am not sure how that goes with animal cruelty, but apparently this place is famous for it.

After sliding down some small rapids on our bamboo float we also stopped to pet some water buffalo's, which was lots of fun. The rest of the cruise was very relaxing and scenic. This place is famous for its landscape!

This is how day one ended and we went back to the hotel after a long day rested a bit and went into town to check out WALKING STREET, it is a pedestrian street in the middle of the city with lots of shopping and restaurant. We enjoyed some local fish in beer and some chow fan. Loved how they wrapped the dishes in plastic.

DAY TWO:
And again we had an early start on Saturday because we wanted to see the minority tribes and the famous rice terraces the Longsheng Terraced Fields.

This part is quiet high up in the mountains and very pictoresque. After a short walk up the hill you get to enjoy the great view of the rice terraces.

The Longji Terraces are located in Longsheng County about 2 hours from Guilin . The rice terraces are built into the hillsides. The terraces look like great chains or ribbons as they wind from the foot to the top of the hill. This ingenious construction makes best use of the scare arable land and water resources in the mountainous area. There are about 66 square kilometers terraced fields in southeast of Longsheng,

The Terraces were first built in the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368) and completed in the Qing dynasty by the Zhuang people.

Overall I had a great weekend!

Getting DUMPLINGed and WET at the MARKET

so there is more stuff about food coming your way! But you must have guessed by now, I really love the food here in HK. And so did my mom while being here. So I had to have her try all the good stuff around.

My friends Michael and Andrew introduced me to this very local and fab PEKING DUMPLING restaurant in Wan Chai. There is a wast variety of dumplings to choose from. Fried, Steamed, Meat, Veggies, Shrimp and so on.

We had to try our share ....

Last Friday night a group of friends met up for drinks on the roof terrace of the Excelsior Hotel and then we headed down to yet another of my favorite food places here in HK. The NORTH POINT WET MARKET on JAVA STREET. It is located on top of the Wet Market and it is very local and authentic.

Sitting on plastic chairs in a huge space, white tiles on the flood and the walls. AND THE BEST FOOD! It is very loud but definitely an experience to try. Drinking beer out of cups ..

And Mum picked up the baby from the next table ... look at this ... soooo cute!

Another GREAT experiences here in HK with family, great friends and fab food!

CHINA CLUB and the DUCK

The China Club is a very nice and exclusive restaurant here in HK - Members Only! But my good friend Limbo got us a fab table. My mom has been here now for a week, and we have enjoyed great places, great food, great friends, great shopping ... She loves HK! So this was another very special place to take her on her HK experience.

We enjoyed some drinks at the bar, the library and the balcony. The place is filled with art and all kinds of funny and interesting deco, which make great props for pictures.

And we have of course the most amazing food. Thanks Andrew, Limbo and Anna for ordering. I said to Michael I feel bad for white people in here that do not have any Chinese with them to help them order the right things. hahahah

I loved the PEKING DUCK ... mhhh soooo good.

After dinner we had to have another look from the balcony. WOW ..I have seen HK skyline at night so many times now, but it keeps amazing me over and over again.

SAI KUNG - just like a holiday

On Saturday we took a lovely trip to Sai Kung. Just take the MTR then a Mini Bus and you are there. Just getting off the bus you feel like you arrived in a resort town.

We got on a Sampan (basically a wooden boat) that took us to this FAB beach with crystal blue waters. Oh was that nice to chill there, hang out in the water and enjoy the time and the sun.

Of course chilling makes you hungry, so back in Sai Kung we had to try one of the many seafood restaurants by the water. Basically you pick what you want out of the tanks ... still alive .. the waitress suggest the cooking method and then you get the BEST seafood ever.

We loved it ..look at that food.

On the way back we did have to be silly a bit. Dancing Queens.

I can highly recommend a day trip there, if you are ever in HK. If feels like getting away and it is an easy day trip. I will definitely be back here!

Dragon Boat Day - GO TEAM AUSTRIA

after over a month of weekly training sessions..we were ready to race .... Stanley Dragon Boat Festival 2010 ..TEAM AUSTRIA

I was told it was going to be very busy, ohhh and it was. But we were glad that we had a junk on which we could hang out before and after the races and then of course to celebrate and have fun!

We competed in 2 races ...the first one we came in second and got us our trophy. On the second race we only got 10th place ... but we were still happy because we got us a trophy.

I have to say all the trainings and the day of the race was great fun and I had a blast. I will definitely join Team Austria again next year.

A WEEKEND in HK - PARTYs with GOOD FRIENDS

Because I am finishing all the schedules and drawings for my restaurant project I have been kind of busy lately. But of course not too busy to have fun and food ..

On Saturday I was invited to Thierry, to his Apartment farewell party ... it was a great party ..(THANKS FRANKIE FOR THE PICS!)

after that I joined my Austrian friend charly for his birthday party at a karaoke place - first time I have ever been to one. But I have to say it was also lots of fun. I did not sing ... (THANKS ALY FOR THE PICS!)

On Sunday I eagerly waited for my friends to come back to HK. Guys arrived before Bonnie, and of course the first thing we did is get great food.

DRAGON BOAT TRAINING

on Sunday we had our last training secession for the dragon boat race, which will be on the 16th of June in Stanley.

Because we do get pretty wet in the boat I had no opportunity to take pictures myself. But for our last training Angel brought her sister along and she was so nice and took great pictures for us.

HK Art Fair 2010

Time flies when you are having fun!
I started my Saturday with some healthy breakfast and the weekend paper.

Last weekend was the HK Art Fair and because it was a cloudy and bit rainy day we decided to go see the Art Fair ...wow it was very inspiring ...

sooo many nice different interesting pieces to see ...

we were pretty exhausted after all those visual inputs.

Went home got myself some healthy herbal jelly - it's good for you!

At night I met up with an old college buddy back from Boston for dinner. Of course we met up with more friends and ended up having a fun evening.

Sunday the weather was even worst, it was pouring and there was thunder and lighting. I kind a thought Dragon boat training was going to be canceled. But shortly before it stopped and we got another 2 good hours of paddling in there.
There is one more training next Sunday and then we RACE on the 16th ...

Junk, Nails, Massages, Dim Sum and Fun

On Tuesday night I met up with Bonnie and Guy, I was introduced to them through a mutual friend that I knew from Boston. Got to love the new technologies.

They asked me to join them on a Junk. I always have to smile while typing it ... so JUNK ..it's an old wooden boat basically. We took a fab cruise around Victoria harbour to see HK laser show, which so far I have not done yet (shame on me).http://www.aqua.com.hk/#/?eng&aquaLuna&concept

We had a really fun evening!

I love being a girl! That said ... I love getting my nails done! I was being spoiled living in Beacon Hill in Boston getting my nails done on Charles street either at Teke Nails or Lauren's. But after I have moved back to Vienna, nothing! No O.P.I for me! I could not find a good place, where I would not have to take out a loan to get my pretty nails painted, to save my life.

But now things are back in order ... in my first week someone handed me a flyer on the street. I liked the graphics and the colors, so off I went. And me LIKE! Good service, good nails, good price.
So I had a Mani and Pedi in "the Tasmanian devil made me do it" Red by OPI. Good quality, color stayed on even after 2 dragon boat trainings ...And this week I went for a color change for the hands, a bit more lighter in a "Private Bubble" pink!

So I can highly recommend this place, very friendly, very good ...and they will see a lot more of ME!

I tried sleeping without the A/C off. But I just wake up in the middle of the night soaked. Yes an A/C keeps you cool, but I do get some tension in my shoulders. Hmmm ...what to do .. on Saturday I did have a foot massage already around the corner from my apartment, which was very good and relaxing. But I also did read about the ACUPRESSURE AND MASSAGE CENTRE OF THE BLIND. Hey ... they had great reviews all over the web, and they are just around the corner ...Had to try it ..

And I LOVED it ... great massage ... very friendly ..and my shoulders are feeling much better!

On Saturday went took the tram up to the PEAK, despite the misty weather. But it actually was very nice to see the mist come in and go. Then a nice stroll back and off for all you can eat DIM SUM ..mhhhh that was good, but we were so full. And Shopping for nice stuff at the JADE Market ..so I got some necklaces, Bracelet's, Rind and earrings ... such much pretty stuff ...

And of course we had to go out at night ...and it was yet another great and fun night out in HK.

On Sunday we went to the beach for a nice swim and some rest ...
You think those were lots of things for one week? Yes and I had work as well... but everything is very close here and if you like what you do, it's fine!

I have been getting into my routine here in HK. Living Working Shopping Eating Training for the race Meeting Friends ...

Went to Temple Street Night Market which is full of all kinds of stuff ....

I got myself 2 new Jimmy Choo bag ..nice! And of course a girl has to eat! Salt and Pepper Squid, Chinese Broccoli with garlic and a beer..

The weather is quiet different here then back home in Vienna. Especially when it come to the lovely high humidity, which averages around 80-100%. This makes drying things like my training clothes or towels very difficult. I have tried to buy a DE-Humidifier, but they were sold out. So I am giving this a try!

I have fun plans for the rest of the week ... and there will be more fun post as time goes on ...

HONG KONG - where I live right now

My first week

Hi there … it has been a while, but I am back. Yes back in Hong Kong. I arrived here last Tuesday and I moved into a lovely apartment in Sheung Wan.

Check it out … I feel very comfy here and it is a great location. I can walk to work and it is close to everything I need. I also already went to IKEA for some candles and stuff I needed for my place. This is the first Ikea that is smack in the middle of the city in the basement of a building. It is a bit smaller but still like all the other Ikeas around the world.

I love looking out of my windows and taking a look at this amazing city.

I started working on my restaurant project right away, and it has been fun so far. I have been having some trouble sleeping last week with the jetlag, but it is getting better.

Of course I have been enjoying all the great food here in HK … like this famous Won Ton Noodle Restaurant right around the corner from the office. If you ever in this neighbor hood, you have to check it out. Mhhhh ymmmmy

On Sunday I had my first training for the Dragon Boat race. Of course I am a member of TEAM AUSTRIA, it is quiet fun but also very hard. I definelty was in pain the following days.

Sorry none of those are my pics, because I was soaked ..but I will be posting some from our next training! GO Team Austria!

I am planning on posting more food and restaurant post as I continue to explore the city. So stay tuned for more news from HK - the city where I live in!

More Siem Reap

around ANKOR and more crazy stuff

on my second day around the temples a girl approached me and asked me if I wanted to share a TukTuk the next day to go to a more remote temple and the floating village....hmmm sounds nice

So that evening I met up with Louisa from Lissabon and we had dinner togehter and then had a funny foot massage from FISH .... ahhh this was great ... it does tickle a bit in the beginning but you get used to it. The eat away your dead skin.... and you get a free beer with it.

The next morning the TukTuk driver picked us up and drove us to the samll and remote down of Rolous where we got us a boat to the FLOATING VILLAGE OF KOMPONG PHLUK. This was great and very scenic.

The kids here in Cambodia are soooo cute and nice and friendly.... look at them

After this great trip we got into our TukTuk again and drove about an hour to the temple of BENG MEALEA. WOW .... no tourist buses full of hordes.... no one trying to sell you something .... and THE BEST TEMPLE ever.

Because it is like I imagined them to be, right in the jungle with trees growing out of them, fallen down, in the middle of the jungle. And this was it ...it is a huge temple and it is fun climbing around, we did have a guide, well he followed us and showed us the way.

Riding on jungle swings.... this was great.

After 2 hours of climbing around this great place we were ready to get back to Siem Reap. A american girl approached us and asked us if she could get a ride back to town with us, because she was working in the village in an orphanage. Ok ...no problem....BUT she did bring on board a huge life turkey. And most of my friends know, I am afraid of brids. VERY afraid. But we managed and the bird was very quiet and fel asleep right away.

Being thanksgiving tomorrow, she was preparing him for a group of expats here in Siem Reap. It was a very interesting ride, she gave us lots if insight into the country and the people.

My last day I skipped the temples and took a KHMER cooking class....mhhhh was this fun and good.

I learned how to make a green mango salad, fish amok and coconut sticky rice with fresh sweet mango. Also again lots of fun with interesting people.

After that I had a massage from blind people, which was great as well. And ended my day with a cup of latte at the FCC ... what a nice place. Thanks Michael for the Tip!!!!

Thursday I am leaving Cambodia to go back to Hong Kong to see my friends and to have a great last party fun weekend!

CAMBODIA - SIEM REAP

THE TEMPLES OF ANKOR in SIEM REAP ..wow

So I took the plane to Siem Reap and got there very fast. At the airport I wanted to get a taxi. But the guys were no way only one bag take motorcycle ...and off I went to town for $2. The driver having my backbag in the front ....funny and I got there safe.

I found a guesthouse near the center ...its nice and cheap and clean ... and close to everything at night and the market ....mhhhh shopping

I arranged with my driver to pick me up again next morning to do my first day of TEMPLE DAY ....
I got myself a 3 day pass ...$ 40 ... not that cheap. But worth it.

So on my first day I did the big ONES like TA PROHM, ANKOR THOM with BAYON and ANKOR WAT and other smaller one which were great ...

WOW this is amazing ...they are sooo great an there are sooo may of them ...all different. There are a lot f tourist around here and some temples can get very busy. I believe Japan must be empty right nw, becaue all the japanese are here ..hihhihihi.

But some can still manage to find some temples with not so many tours getting of a bus.

TEMPLE DAY 2:

So for day 2 I hired a TUK TUK ..very comfy ...and fun to ride ..He picked me up in the morning and we went to some of the more far away temples. Inlcuding a nice place in the jungle ...

I will not go into detail with the names and history of the temples, if you want info, get it online. It is just toooooooo much.

And the children are great here, so cute and adorable ...NO wonder Angelina Jolie picked one up here when she was filming Tomb Raider in Ta Prohm ....

So I have 2 more days here ... let's see ...more temples, massages, a khmer cooking class .... more food ... ahhh and more shopping ...

see ya ....by the way I will be flying back to Hong Kong on the 26th of November YEAH and getting back t Vienna on December 1st ...

PHU QUOC the EXTRA DAY

sorry no boat for you ...

so I tried to get to Cambodia through boat and bus from Phu Quoc, but the boat did not leave for 2 days in a row, because of heavy winds on the east side of the island. So I had an extra day on this great island.

Because I felt a bit lazy having been only chillin on the beach. I decided to join some really nice germans on a day tour of the island.

A Pearl Farm

Pepper Farm ... ahhh this pepper is great ... bought a whole bunch for home

The north of the island with views to Cambodia ....(where I could not get earlier that morning) SEE it over there ....

After all it was a great extra day and I got to see something of the island.

Back in the my room ... I had myself some BIRDSNEST DRINK .... and it really does have a nest of a bird in it, or at least parts of it. It did not taste bad at alll, kind of sweet and refreshing ... and it is supposed t be good for you.

Viet Nam was GREAT !!!!! Loved it! I found out the boat was not leaving again at 7 am in the morning, so I went to the next Vietnam Airlines office, which is a couple of doors down and got a flight for 11:30 to Saigon and then a flight to Siem Reap ... EASY and CHEAP ... you don't have to pay more here for bookings at the same day ..the boat and bus is of course cheaper, but I was on my way!

PHU QUOC ISLAND

Chillin at the beaches of Phu Quoc island - my last stop in Viet Nam

So I took a short flight from Saigon to Phu Quoc Island and found a really nice resort hotel right on the beach. I got a lovely bungalow with views to the garden and access to the beach. This is the first time on my trip when I had a couple of days in a row to relax and do nothing ...which is nice.

So my daily routine starts with breakfast, a swim in the crystal clear ocean, a walk on the beach, swim again, chilling and reading, buying some fab pineapple or mango from a lovely lady at the beach getting a massage or my nails done .... and so on and so on .... ohhhh let me tell you life is hard here.

This place is very relaxing and very beautiful.

At night I chill on my balcony and go into town on the back of a motorbike to have some beers and great food ...and then another day on the beach ... with a similar chilling routine.

There was something freaky on the beach today hahahahahah

In my initial plans I was supposed to fly back to Saigon to either catch a bus or a flight into Cambodia. But my plans have changes after talking to some really nice Americans I met in Saigon. So I will be taking the ferry boat to Ha Tien on Friday- close to the cambodian border- and get on a bus to Phnom Phen stay there for one night and then take either the boat up the river or the bus to Siem Reap.

The days have been flying by so fast ... Cambodia and then back to HK for some last fun days with my friends. See ya soon ...xoxo Sabine

HO CHI MINH CITY or as they call it SAIGON

HCMC .... wow I love it

So after chill Mui Ne I get to Saigon and I heard and had read lots of things about it. ohhhhh ..it's more dangerous as Hanoi be carefull sooo many motorcycles, can't cross the streets etc....

But yes it is a big city and there is traffic, but it is much easier to cross the streets here then in Hanoi and the poeple are friendlier and it seems more like a city and safer. there is nice shopping, Tons to do ... and crossing the streets NO PROBLEM ..I either got used to it by now or it's just easier ...who knows ...

So needless to say I like it a lot, this is a great city. And shortly after getting off the bus I ran into on of my friends that was on the 30hour bus trip with me. So I ended up spending the next two days with here, seeing the sights.

Look what sticker I found on the wall of a local restaurant here in Saigon.

Day 1 ... we walked around the city to see the major sights ... get the BEST ice cream EVER at FANNY's

Chili Chocolate, Ginger and Durian ..mhhhhhh

saw the War remeberance Museum....it is really good, but kinda tough ...

Day 2... we took a one day trip to the Mekong Delta, which was nice, saw all kind of things get made by the locals and took boats through the canals, pony carts .... it was a nice trip.

So my days here are ending I and getting on a short plane ride to Phu Quoc Island next ... more beach and chillin before I leave for Cambodia. So see ya soon. ... Sabine

Mui Ne and the Sand Dunes

MUI NE - where there is a desert in Viet Nam

After Dalat I got a small bus and took a really nice but bumpy 5hour ride to the beach town of Mui Ne.

There was a really nice german couple on my bus and they recommended a good place to stay. I got my own sea view bunglow, they had a great pool, nice breakfast and the price was right.

I took relaxing strools along the beach, watching the locals fisherman.

And they have the most amazing sunsets here ... check this out.

There are also white and yellow sanddunes in Mui Ne, and it feels like you are in the desert. This is quiet the contrast to the lust green environment that you find around Viet Nam.

I spent a couple of really relaxing days in Mui Ne and really liked it a lot. Met again lots of very nice and interesting people. Had great cheap seafood and worked on my tan ....

Because my days are just flying, I had to leave Mui Ne and take a 5hour bus ride to Ho Chi Minh City or also called Saigon .... the BIG city ...with millions of motorcycles.

DALAT - in the highlands

I took a really nice bus ride from Nha Trang up to the highland in Dalat. And arrvied here to a VERY special treat.

Sorry my french friends that I did not make it for dinner in Nha Trang ...took a nap and did not wake up until 9pm ... sorry!!!!!

THE ANA MANDARA RESTORT DALAT ... several 1930ies french colonial summer villas made into a 5star resort. I got a really good deal. It is still lots of money for Vietnam, but it is worth every cent ...This is one of the best places I have seen ....

Dalat is not so popular with Western tourists, but very popular with Vietnamese Honeymooners, and because of it there are a lot of tacky things around.

On my first day I visited the flower garden ..mhhh ...well. The lake ...and

THE CRAZY House .. they have rooms there for rent as well. Pretty crazy, someone was doing serious drugs I think.

On my second day here I hired a really nice EASY RIDER as they call them. A guy that drives you around on his bike, not one of those scooters. And there are a lot here and in Nha Trang offering several trips to tourists. It was a nice way to get around.

First we went to the DALAT trainstation, build by the french, but most of the tracks were destroyed in the war. Only a short part is still open to tourists. THE CREMAILLERE RAILSWAY STATION/

And those pics are for my dad ...FUER VATI!!!!

Then we drove to the cable cars, I was not quiet sure about that, being in Vietnam, strong winds ...but then I saw it DOPPELMAYR ..MADE in AUSTRIA and brand new ... off I went ...

After that we visited the BAO DAI's summer palace ..one of the last emperors of Vietnam. It was build in 1933. Do not ask me why they have all that funny stuff around ...????

after that we drove about 30km to the elephant falls and another temples

saw some flowers, coffee plant on the way ..it's a big business here in Dalat. And they grow strawberries ...which they are famous for.

and we visited a Silk factory ...

overall a very nice day and a smooth ride with my guide.

Unfortunaly I have to leave tomorrow to head on to Mui Ne, back down to the coast ...see ya there ...

The 30 hour bus ride in the middle of a typhoon ...

The Typhoon, the bus and ME!

So I hopped on the sleeping bus from Hoi An to NHA TRANG, which is suppossed to take 11 hours. We had heavy downpour but they said it is going to be all right ...no problem mam ...

Well so I get on the bus ...around 7pm in Hoi An ...

Around 11:30pm we stopped and started loading the bags from below into the bus and off we went trouhg chest high flowing water ... on the bus ... quiet scary ... with the headlights under water and the busdrivers assistant holding the flashlight so that we don't hit debris.

OK I thought that was it ...well 3 am we stop somewhere, it is still raining. Then we get on the bus move but turn around again.

We went back to the place where we had stopped and waited there and waited. There were 3 tourist sleeping buses there, and around 75 people. And all 3 bus drivers and their guys did NOT speak english. Great ...so they had us sit there at the end of somewhere ...it did not look nice ...with no info what was going on.

So after a couple hours of no info we started to try to talk to the drivers ...we did have an english speaking vietnamese woman with us so she helped a lot. But the info we got we felt did not really make sense. Everybody had the feeling they were just keeping us there. So we waited,people called travel agencies etc...

So in the end we left that place around 7pm ...and drove again through water for 5 hours to Nha Trang....

So this 11 hour bus ride turned out to be 30 hours long ..how fun is that ..

But I met again lots of interesting people on that trip. People I have been running into here in Nha Trang quiet frequently. Some of us are going to meet up at the sailing club tonight. (supposed to be THE place here)

My hotel here is nice, cheap and clean and centrally located. I had a fab breakfast in the morning. I checked out the normally fab beach today, well ain't looking to good ...so I decided to leave tomorrow morning to go to the highlands to Dalat.

I will be leaving at 8am and it takes 5 hours.

HOI AN - same same but BETTER

HOI AN - cute as a button and shoppers paradise

After have a great time in Hue I got on the bus to Hoi An, which took about 3 hours and was a nice ride. I got to see the Sleeping bus, clean but a bit tight. Because I have to be on one of them on my way to Nha Trang (11 hours overnight) well only the hard survive.

Hoi An is such a lovely small town great to walk around and ride your bike, have great food AND there is the shopping. Custom tailor and shoemakers everywhere and all those cute lanterns.

I have been pretty good about not buying to much here in Vietnam, but I just lost it here in Hoi An. To sum it up .... 3 pairs of custom shoes, linen pants, wool winter coat, Vietnamese trad. dress, silk evening dress, and another dress and all made to order custom pieces. ....well well ... girls and clothes.

And then I got 4 lanterns which Hoi An is famous for.
Look at them at night ... could not resist.

I have been meeting lots of really nice an interesting people her in Hoi An, some I have know from other places, some new friends.

I took the deluxe all day cooking course, which was great ...now I know how to make my PHO and I can make the rice noodles as well. This was sooo much fun. We started out at the her gardens and the local market before getting to the RED BRIDGE COOKING SCHOOL. We cooked until 2pm were taken back to town on the boat. It was a great day,

Hoi An is also know for great local dises, so I have to eat every chance I get ... soooo good.Hmmm even eating at the cheap but good food stalls is FAB.

Riding your bike around town is very easy and lots of fun ....

ahhh my fav. Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk ...mhhhh

Saturday night was full moon and on every full moon night. The electrical lights in the old parts get turned off and only candles and lanterns are used in shops, restaurants and on the street. It was magical and just breathtaking.

On the day that I was leaving it started to rain really heavy and it was stormy ...oh here is the typhoon. Hoi An being close to the water gets flooded quiet quickly as you can see.

I have been traveling now for a month and I feel great, getting used to it and having a great time.

HUE - the Sights Part 2

HUE - the sights ...

I got up went for my morning yoga hours, had a fab breakfast, a swim in the pool, dropped my laundry across the street to get cleaned, read the english Vietnam newspaper ..see what I found

...and then I went into town to see the sights.

HUE used to be the capitol of Vietnam back in the days when the Nguyen emerors used to rule the country.
I hired a really nice cyclo driver to take me around the ciry to the CITADEL and the IMPERIAL ENCLOSURE which is kind of a citadel within a citadel. It was first build in 1804. In front is the big FLAG TOWER. The citadel has several beautiful entrance gates.

Hue was heavily bombed during the war, but they are rebuilding as we speak. My cyclo driver always pointed out destroyed parts witht he comment - Amerincans boom boom!!!

There are not to many tourist here, so walking around was great and very quiet.

The Imperial enclosure contains the Forbidden Purple city, lots of temples, gates, lakes, the hall of the mandarins, the Royal reading room and and and..

Look at him does he not look like Homer Simpson? hihih

Afer a lovely dinner in town, I came back to the hotel and had a great massage...mhhhh..life is so hard ...

Tomorrow I will have to leave HUE. And I will get on a 3 hour bus to Hoi An. See Ya ... XOXO Sabine

HUE - my Resort

HUE - Part 1

After getting back to Ha Noi from Halong Bay I took the overnight 13 hour train ride down south to HUE. This train was not that nice, kind of dirty, small animals travelling with us, really full and hot. And I did not sleep very well. So I arrived here in HUE being really exhausted.

BUT .. Paradise was waiting for me.. I had booked a FAB 5* Resort for 3 nights here in HUE. They picked me up in a car gave me cold towels and a cold drink of water. I checked in into my GRAND Room with a balcony, big marble bath, 2 pools, Yoga classes, Spa. and and and ..and I got a really good deal on it for my room incl. breakfast, free yoga, free massage and and and .. 72 euros per night!

I took a long shower and felt like a human again ... see me smiling ... I really needed that ... it was perfect timing to recharge my batteries.

I went into HUE for a while ..just to get to know the city a bit and to arrage my bus to Hoi An which will be my next stop.

And my day this morning started with one hour of Yoga facing the lotus pond ...

a FAB breakfast my fruit ... dont't worry had the eggs, croissants, coffee as well ... you know me..

And it followed by chillin at the pool until noon ... and now off I go to do some sightseeing of the city, which is suppposed to be great.

HALONG BAY

HALONG BAY - 2 nights on the boat

So I arrived back from Sapa on another overnight train ride back to Hanoi at 5 in the morning. I got some coffee and was picked up at 7:30 for another 3,5 hour bus ride to Halong Bay.

We arrived around noon and check in on to out boat THE MARGERUITE JUNK ... Halong Bay is full with Junk ships and tourists because it is one of THE places to visit. We had lunch on the boat and then visited some caves, did some cajaking and had dinner again on the boat.

The scenery there is just breathtaking.... there are around 1.900 islands in Halong Bay. And all yoy can see is layers of layers of islands...is is quiet stunning.

We stopped to for the night where all the boats stop and had the chance to go swimming, but to be honest the water did not look to nice there ..so I skipped that one.

The next day we went to CAT BA island and had a challenging hike up the mountain ... and it was HOT.

Lunch and Dinner again on the junk ... met some interesting people from all over the world .. which was fun.

And the the next day breakfast and back to Ha Noi city for the last time.

SAPA - northwest Vietnam in the Hills with the tribes

SAPA - 3 nights trekking with the Hill Tribes

I was glad to get out of noisy Ha Noi and I got on the night train to LAO CAI. The train left at 9 pm and arrived at 5pm there. I have to say it was a great train ride a bit bumpy but I got to sleep and woke up to some loud Vietnamese propaganda music. FUN...

After another 45 minutes on the bus we arrived in SAPA .. 1650m high and it was foggy. But wait 10minutes and the weather changes anyways. I was teamed up with some great folks from Lissabon and it was 5 of us all togehter. We got a great guide MEE ...she was tiny and about 10kg.

We went around Sapa town in the morning and trekking down to CAT CAT village and the waterfall where the BLACK H'MONG live. The hill tribes are all very friendly and funny ...We stayed at a hotel in town for one night.

The hill tribe ladies are tooo funny ....Buy from ME my friend ..where you from ..how many kids..buy from me ...hihih and they were following us around for the next 2 days. But they were not mad if you did not buy anything from them. And we had fun having them around.

The next day was a bit more challenging trek, but the landscape was just GREAT. Great views, lovely villages... great weather ...

That evening we went back on the train and arrived back in Ha Noi at 5 am ..and for the first time it was quiet.

SAPA was great ...loved it!

HA NOI - Day 2 & 3

HA NOI - Day 2
I started my day with yet another steaming bowl of PHO ...mhhh and then I took a Cyclo to the Temple of Literature. Which was very nice and a good quiet change to the loud Old Quarter. Took another Cyclo back to the city and had lovely lunch at a cute place and then I booked my trips to SAPA (leaving on the overnight train the night of the 20th) and HALONG BAY and got my train ticket to HUE ..so I am all set for the next week. Got some sneaker shopping done and had a nice day and evening.

HA NOI - Day 3 - NOT MY DAY kinda

I had an early start, because I wanted to get to the HO CHI MINH Mausoleum which is only open in the mornings. So being all brave and checking my fear at the door I hopped on the back of a motorcycle and off we went. Well you only live once right . My driver was very nice and took me straight there, for like 1.5 euros. Yeah ...
So I get there ... it's a huge area with a museum, his mausoleum, his houses, gardens, lakes ....
But guess what Ho Chi Minh or how the vietnamese call him UNCLE HO, wasn't home. Apparently they take him to Russia once a year for a Spa vacation, or let's say it that way ...he is getting preserved. So no HO for me today ..oh well the rest was very interesting as well.

THE MOTORCYCLE DRIVER - THE GOOD ONE!!!!

So after a morning there I hired a Cyclo again to go back to the Old Quarter ... I show him where I want to go, we discuss the price, we agree and OFF I go. The one armed cyclo driver takes me down strange small streets and all of a sudden he stops and says ..oh Old Quarter right there ... and I am like NO WAY, having been checking my compass and the map. We were far from it ...so we have a long discussion ...I tell him he tricked me and that he will be having bad luck because of it ...but well I get off with not paying in the middle of NOWHERE ... Okay .. I try to find my way ...no tourists as far as I can see... and no idea where I am. GREAT. So I find another motorcycle driver, hoping he will get me where I want to go. I make sure he knows where I want to go ... and I tell him lots of times that he will have bad luck for EVER if he wants to trick me. And off I go again ..praying that I will not be driven somewhere, where they hit me over the head and take off with my bag ... he did take a strange route ..and I was already thinking of jumping off the bike and running. I did not have a good feeling about that ..but in the END I got to where I wanted to go!!!! SAFE ... Thank GOD! This was my first strange experience since I have started my travels.

Becuase I have been running around every day since I started my travels, I wanted to go to the pool for a relaxing afternoon in the sun. So my travel book said that the MELIA Hotel offers the day for 10USD, so I get there ...and they want to charge me 30 USD ... for a small lousy pool. So I skipped that one. And decided for a cold beer at the lake and a shower in my room.

Oh well ...can't have perfect days every day right!

Vietnam 1 - HA NOI

HA NOI - the city of Mopeds ...Day 1
Hi there from Vietnam ... I arrived on the 16 th here in Ha Noi and it is a city full of traffic, people, noise, smell and and and and ...

I have been walking through the Old Quarter exploring the streets, markets, temples and shops ..oh and yes restaurants .. of course ...

Traffic is quiet the challenge here ...the motorbikes never stop ..not even at red lights ..so we westerners would try to cross as quickly as possible ...but DON'T do that ..walk slow and even stop in the middle of the street ... the hunk their horns no matter what ... and so far I am still alive ..hahaha

And the Vietnamese LOVE shoes ... how great is that ...

Hoan Kiem Lake ,Hoc Bridge and the Ngoc Son Temple ...the Thap Rua (the Tortoise Tower) at night ...

And I love their food ..I have been a BIG fan of PHO for some years now ...and here I even get it for breakfast yeah and dinner ...

It is is definelty a fun city ...and very different from Hong Kong. Here I will start my travels through Vietnam. Looking forward to more exciting things to see, eat, smell .....

MACAU - the city of duality

Wow again ..Macau ...65km west from HK ..we took the fast ferry over on Saturday morning and had a great sunny day sightseeing the city. I loved all the old portugese influence ...as you can see ...it's very lovely. And has the best portugese food.

AND a city full of Casinos, the Chinese LOVE to gamble ... we went to the Venetian ...wow ..just like Las Vegas ..and actually Macau makes more money then Las Vegas does ...the city if also full of very strange hotels ...and very strange designs ...

I had my foturne told in A MA TEMPLE ..which was very interesting and true for some parts. But all is good ...lucky me ..

Sunday we strolled around again and explored some antique stores and lovely back streets. Went to COLOANE VILLAGE. And later that day we took the ferry back to HK and at night we chilled with some movies and sushi.

After a short 40 min train ride we arrived in Mainland China ..sorry only a few pics. Because I was tooo busy shopping ...I died and went to HEAVEN in China.
after shopping and DimSum we went to a HUGE 10.000 squaremeter Spa and spend hours getting pampered and guess what it was sooo cheap. No sightseeing there but plenty of other things to do ...

Thurday 8.Oct. - Lantau Island one of the outlying Islands of HK

This island is actuallz bigger than HK Island itself, but a very quiet und green place.
I took the bus around the island to a small fishing town of TAI O. It is also called the Venice of HK. It has cute little houses on stilts.

Then I took the bus to the TIIAN TAN BUDDAH ..the largest outdoor sitting Buddah and finally I after a nice meal by the water I took the ferry back to the city. And it being Friday night we went out for drinks and dinner with the boys...
